  19. No contest, LW3. I don't even consider R3D worth the $200 I have seen it
  20. sell for used. Many of the people I know who have bought it are looking to
  21. sell it or already have. Its not as big a disaster as Alladin was, but it is
  22. far more hype than substance. It is bug ridden, HORRIBLY slow, and has a
  23. ridiculous user interface (fortunately the later is configureable). Many
  24. of the spec sheet claims are either only partially true or completely bogus.

  32. Trust me, features lists are meaningless and extremely deceptive, especially
  33. for comparisons. What matters is implementation, ease of use, functionality,
  34. speed, and versatilty. R3D does have some interesting capabilities, but it
  35. is still very much a hobbyist program. But don't take my word for it, I urge
  36. you to check it out yourself at a dealer if you can.

  38. The most recent person I spoke on this subject, Charles Lee, was doing
  39. molecular visualization with R3Dv2 figuring he needed RPL to drive the
  40. animation from his data. Concerned over the 3hr/frame rendering times
  41. he was getting (even with all CSG primitives), he contacted me to ask if
  42. LW3 could could do the job. After looking at his application, I told him
  43. about the new and existing Arexx support which will suit his needs nicely.
  44. He is now a VERY happy owner of a new T4000. I haven't heard how he is
  45. doing with it yet, but having seen what he was modeling, I am certain he
  46. is getting at least a 30x speed improvement. He is now hoping to unload
  47. R3Dv2 (I hope this hasn't sabotaged it for ya Charles :-) so if you would

  50. But who knows, you may like it. Sean Cunningham seems fairly pleased with
  51. it much to my surprise. But then I don't think Sean has used LW3 either :-)
